Experience Hangzhou

As the capital of Zhejiang Province, Hangzhou is a famous historical and cultural city and one of China’s seven major ancient capitals. Located by the Qiantang River and at the southern end of the Grand Canal, Hangzhou has a population of more than 6 million.

Well known for its awesome scenery, this famous tourist city has two national scenic zones: the West Lake Scenic and Historic Interest Zone, and the Scenic and Historic Interest Zone of Two Rivers and One Lake (Fuchun and Xin’an rivers and Qiandao Lake).

Additionally, Hangzhou has a large number of historical sites, such as Liuhe Pagoda, Lingyin Temple, Feilai Peak, Yue Fei’s Tomb, Jingci Temple, Yunqizhujing, and others.



Hangzhou is served by Xiaoshan International Airport, located some 27 kilometers (17 miles) from downtown Hangzhou. There are daily flights to major cities and larger tourist cities in China. Airport buses and taxes frequently run from the city center to the airport and vice versa.

Hangzhou is an important railroad junction in East China. The Huhang Railway (from†Guangdong†to Hangzhou), the Zhegan Railway (from Zhejiang to Jiangxi) and the Xuanhang Railway (from Anhui to Hangzhou). The Hangzhou Railway Station, which is also called “City Station” by local people, is the most important railway station in the city. Most of the trains departing from and terminating their route in Hangzhou stop here.


There are four bus stations in Hangzhou including Passenger Transport Central Station (namely Jiubao Passenger Transport) and South, West and North Bus Stations.The Hangzhou Tourist Center has buses which mainly go to tourist cities or attractions.

Hangzhou’s convenient highway network leads to Qingdao in Shandong Province to the north, Shenzhen in Guangdong Province to the south, Yichang in Hubei Province to the west, and Zhoushan to the east.

Getting Around

The Hangzhou subway system will eventually consist of 10 lines. The first phase of the project, including Line 1 (second stage), Line 2 and a part of Line 4 is underway. The first-stage construction of subway Line 1 has been open to the public since 2012. The second phase construction of Line 1, Line 2, Line 3, Line 4 and Line 5 scheduled for completion in 2020.

Getting around†the city†by taxi is the most convenient way to travel. At present, there are more than 8,000 taxis running in the city and passengers can find one almost anywhere in the city.

Public Bicycles
Hangzhou also has a well-developed bicycle rental system. There are more than 1,000 public bicycle spots in the city, so visitors can rent a bicycle and tour around the city freely.
